[A pause before this one as well, though not as long--he's considering his words.]
Dwarven scholars like to term them G-d's first efforts. The difference is considered semantical by the fairy courts, but demons have a complex system of hierarchy and classification that they insist sets them apart ontologically. The truth is there's no consensus.
[Part of her wants to jab at him, but she recognizes that she's more likely to get answers out of him if she refrains from annoying him. And she does want answers.
She's not sure how she feels about demon hierarchy; something in her finds the concept distasteful. Not that she wants to be a fairy, either.]
Only that you exist. Possibly in more numbers than previously estimated.
[A pause between notes, and then an addendum:]
Though what we're seeing here - in this place - calls some of the classification systems we rely on into question. Still, most modern scholars allow for a great deal of flexibility in categorizing the Creation. Even if such a thing is possible.
Sure we do. But the features are more than a little distinct, cosmetically, and the customary interactions between spirit and human. You wouldn't get very far trying to reckon with our customers the way we do with fairies, and vice versa. And the dimensions and taxonomy of magical practice seem to be vastly different from what I'm familiar with. It could be a case of same language, different vocabulary, or a different sociolinguistic structure entirely. Metaphorically speaking.
Questioning is the structure that bears the weight of our faith. Our magic, too. Or is it our faith that bears the weight of our questions? I've seen it written either way.
[He considers it, chewing his lip before he writes. He doesn't always like to show his hand when it comes to his particular relationship with authority, but--earnestness and forthcomingness are in his nature.]
I'm sure someone's disputed the inappropriateness of electricity, if it's been around for a while in this world. You could probably find a compelling argument to the contrary.
backdated to May 30th or thereabouts
[This note comes out of nowhere a couple days after the storm and is unsigned, but its author is probably obvious nonetheless.]
